What's new here?

On July 16th the Dawn Space Probe will enter orbit of the Asteroid Vesta. It will begin to study it to determine if its present oblong shape was caused by impacts. If this is the case then Vesta may be a candidate for being upgraded from being an asteroid/minor planet to a dwarf planet, like Pluto.

Dawn will remain in Vesta’s orbit for about a year when it will leave to chase after another former asteroid: Ceres.  It will arrive in February 2015.

In the meantime, enjoy a nice picture of Vesta taken just last week!
